Giving Back to Our Communities - Paying it Forward! Team Unlimited has a long tradition of service to our communities - local, regional and beyond. Our founding team was active in mentoring and training for both the FLL and FTC programs here in New England, as well as providing resources via our website and forums to the wider FIRST community. They were recognized for these efforts at the 2008/9 FTC World Championship, as finalists for the Inspire Award (3rd time!) and the recipients of a Judges Award - "Potential Unlimited"! This group has now graduated to begin their college careers, which we all expect will be distinguished. The new members of Team Unlimited have mostly come from the Sharon FLL program, and are still learning the FTC environment, so their contributions come in the FLL program this season. The SYRA (Sharon Youth Robotics Association) exists primarily to organize, mentor and sponsor FLL (FIRST LEGO League) teams in the Sharon MA area. Team Unlimited (team and coaches) is active in this process; recruiting, training, and mentoring teams and team members. Our major team efforts throughout the fall are directed to the support of the SYRA and the MA FLL program. In addition to helping to run the weekly association meetings (from rookie Q&A through table run practice and competition), Team Unlimited also creates and maintains the www.syraweb.org website (a resource for the wider FLL community) in addition to unlimited.syraweb.org (this Team Unlimited FTC site), organizes the Annual Sharon FLL Invitational competitions (2009 was the Fourth Annual), and provides trained referees and head referees for the MA State qualifying tournaments and State Championship. This past FLL season, from the September kickoff, we mentored and train 11 teams in the SYRA, including weekly Association meetings to share news and ideas, as well as running field practices. We organized and ran the 4th Annual Sharon FLL Invitational on the weekend before the start of MA FLL Qualifying events, and carried out referee training for our own members and others. The Blackstone, Quincy and Brookline qualifiers all had training for referees, Sharon referees and/or a Sharon head referee, as well as our photographer. We also provided all these services for the Robonautica MA State FLL Championship at WPI, and our Coach Emeritus received with the Volunteer of the Year award in recognition of the entire team's efforts.
